Newton Stewart Angling Association

The Salmons Life Cycle

The NSAA will be working closely with local schools, in the aim to educate the younger generations with regard to the very diverse corridor of life that a river supports, and in particular raise awareness into the fragility of the life within the rivers eco system, how to protect it, and how to ensure its longevity for future generations. We will focus on pollution, habitat restoration and maintenance, and the life cycle of the Atlantic salmon and Sea-trout, along with the indigenous brown trout.

Small samples of salmon eggs will be donated to the local schools, so that when they hatch, the children themselves will be asked to release them back into the river they came from, the aim is that this will invoke a life-long understanding of why we need to keep our rivers pure, free from litter and pollution.

School visits to the hatchery will be organised, again so that the next generation can see the work being carried out by the NSAA and allied bodies, to improve the rivers fish stock.

Lets not forget the tourism value to a healthy river filled with fish? Fishermen will come from far and wide to fish for our salmon and sea-trout. They will stay in our local hotels, drink in our bars, eat in our restaurants and spend money in our shops.
